Elements and Performance Criteria

  1. Plan and prepare for working in the drilling Industry
  2. Perform safe manual handling
  3. Routinely practice good housekeeping
  4. Complete prestart checks
  5. Complete plant and vehicle refuelling procedures
  6. Prepare and operate vehicle

Performance Evidence

The candidate must demonstrate the ability to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including evidence of the ability to:

undertake the following tasks in the drilling industry on at least two occasions:

performing manual handling

completing prestart checks

refuelling vehicles and plant

driving, parking and securing vehicle

changing a wheel.

During the above, the candidate must:

locate and apply documentation required for working effectively in the drilling industry

implement the requirements, procedures and techniques completing work effectively in the drilling industry, including:

planning and preparing for manual handling

identifying hazards

reporting equipment problems

work effectively with others to undertake and complete work in the drilling industry that meets required outcomes, including:

using a range of communication techniques and equipment to convey information to others

communicating hazards and determining elimination or control of hazards

organising work activities to meet task requirements.


Knowledge Evidence

The candidate must be able to demonstrate knowledge to complete the tasks outlined in the elements, performance criteria and foundation skills of this unit, including knowledge of:

key policies, procedures and established requirements for working effectively in the drilling industry, including those for:

hazard identification when driving and refuelling

work health and safety

emergencies

prestart checks

road and site driving rules

parking, securing and refuelling vehicles

communicating with other personnel throughout work activities

housekeeping

jacking and wheel changing techniques

manual handling techniques

drilling industry team roles and objectives.
